Underground Downspouts & Exterior Drainage

Stop Foundation Damage at the Source in Massachusetts.

Roof runoff is the leading cause of basement flooding and foundation settlement. During a New England nor’easter, standard gutters dump thousands of gallons of water directly against your foundation walls. All Pro Basement Waterproofing designs and installs engineered underground downspout extensions using heavy-duty, solid PVC piping. We capture surface water at the source and channel it safely away from your home, permanently eliminating soil saturation and preventing hydrostatic pressure before it even starts.

The Danger of Pooling Surface Water

Why cheap splash blocks and corrugated black pipes are destroying your foundation.

In Middlesex County, the soil surrounding your foundation is highly absorbent. When your downspouts discharge water just a few feet from your house, that soil becomes saturated. This immense water weight creates hydrostatic pressure that cracks concrete, bows fieldstone walls, and forces water into your basement.
To make matters worse, many landscapers try to fix this by burying cheap, flexible corrugated pipes. These thin pipes are easily crushed by the weight of the soil, easily pierced by tree roots, and trap leaves and debris in their ridges, causing massive clogs. When winter hits, the trapped water freezes, expands, and destroys the line completely.

Engineered Exterior Drainage Solutions

Built with structural-grade materials to outlast the harshest Massachusetts winters.

We approach exterior drainage with the same structural mindset we use for interior waterproofing. We map the grading of your yard, trench with precision, and install a permanent underground channel that protects your property value.

Rigid PVC Piping

We completely reject flexible corrugated tubing. We strictly install thick-walled, smooth interior PVC pipes. This prevents root intrusion, prevents crushing under soil weight, and allows water and debris to flow freely without snagging.

Precision Trenching & Pitch

Gravity is the most reliable pump in the world. Our team carefully trenches and laser-levels the underground line, ensuring a continuous downward pitch so water flows rapidly away from the foundation and never pools in the pipe.

Pop-Up Emitters

The system terminates at a low-profile pop-up emitter safely distanced from your home. The hydrostatic pressure of the flowing water pushes the lid open to discharge the water, and it automatically closes flush with your lawn when empty, making it safe for lawnmowers.

Expert answers on managing surface water and protecting your foundation.

Flexible corrugated pipes have deep ridges inside that trap leaves, shingle grit, and dirt. Over time, this causes severe clogs. Furthermore, the thin plastic is easily crushed by the weight of settling soil or pierced by roots. Solid PVC is smooth, structural, and permanent.
No. We take great pride in our “Clean Yard Guarantee.” We carefully remove the sod over the trench line, perform the excavation and pipe installation, and then meticulously backfill the soil and replace the sod. Within a few weeks, you won’t even know we were there.
Because we use smooth PVC and laser-level the trench for a perfect continuous downward pitch, all the water rapidly drains out through the pop-up emitter. Without standing water left inside the pipe, there is nothing to freeze.
Building science dictates that roof runoff should be discharged a minimum of 10 to 15 feet away from the foundation walls to prevent the water from migrating back into the excavated “bowl” of soil surrounding your basement.
It depends on your local water table. Underground downspouts manage surface water (rain from the roof). However, if your home sits on a high water table or an underground spring, groundwater will still cause hydrostatic pressure from below the slab. Diego can evaluate both risks during your free inspection.
