Moving Basement Water Out of Ashland Homes
A footing drain, a sealed sump and a clear route outside for the water to go

Three Times a Year Basements Get Tested
The calendar says a lot about when the water shows up
Short, Heavy Summer Storms
A summer thunderstorm can dump a lot of rain in an hour. Gutters overflow, soil at the foundation floods and water finds the cove joint.
The Spring Thaw and Rain
Frozen ground thaws while spring rain keeps falling, and the water table climbs to its high point. This is when most basements leak.
Fall and Winter Nor'easters
Coastal storms stall and soak the region for days. The ground can't drain fast enough, and water pressure builds against the walls.
The Sudbury Runs Through Downtown
Ashland grew up along a river, and the town keeps close watch on where water goes

What to Know Before the Crew Arrives
A little prep on your end keeps the job moving and the rest of the house clean
Clear a Path Along the Walls
The crew works along the foundation walls, so shelves, boxes and anything else stored against them should be pulled toward the middle of the room before the first day of work.
Expect Noise From the Saw
Cutting the concrete at the floor edge is loud and throws dust for part of the job. Pets and anyone working from home usually do better on another floor while the saw is running.
Pick the Discharge Spot
The pump line has to leave the house and end where the water can soak in or drain away from the foundation. Town rules limit tying it into the street drain, so we walk the yard with you first.
